October Rain

Start the truck in the driveway and peel the leaves off the hood
A cold wind is blowing like a cold wind always should
Beneath the red and gold leaves is a stark October sky
Never thought I’d be glad to say at least I didn’t die

Around the corner there’s roadwork, and the pile starts to drive
Pounding away at the earth, but the earth always survives
Somedays it’s enough to know that I woke up breathing
The leaves are dying but the trees still keep believing

Three years of winter coming, and the ravens circle higher
Let these red leaves form the base of my funeral pyre
But not today I said once, and not today remains
Let the past wash away in cold October rain

You know I love you Mel, and you know I always will
Dreams come and go, and some dreams just can’t be killed
So let Wyrd weave well for me, and let my dreams come true
That I might live and never be a source of grief for you

Three years of winter coming and ashes fill the air
The Ravens circle round bring a one eyed stare
But not today I said once, and not today remains
I’m outside dancing in the cold October rain

God

I found God by the Gallows Tree
And I did not ask his name
I looked him deep in the eye
The Father of the Slain

I found God in the Thunder Storm
And I did not ask his name
I just laughed as lightning struck
Again and again and again

I found God by the ocean shore
And I did not ask his name
I stood watch proudly by his side
As the waters stilled the Suns flame

I found God in the eyes of a maid
And I did not ask his name
But I took her into my arms
And we gave his lust free reign

I found God at the Gates of Hel
And I did not ask his name
I looked him deep in the eyes
And knew he would rise again

Spinning Jenny

You walked up beside me, said you just had to say hello
I really wished you hadn’t but I was too polite to tell you so
And as I watched you walk away I thought of what could have been
And I’m so glad it didn’t that I just had to stop and grin

So I think about the good times and I find there were not many
Our lives were never meant to cross inside fates spinning jenny
And I don’t have many regrets but at least this ones still true
I really wish I’d never stuck it in you

And I hear you’ve found happiness and know that I have too
You want to be friends again but that will never do
I left your ghostly memory at the crossroads long ago
Friendships always go two ways and you do not get quid pro quo

So I think about the good times and I find there were not many
Our lives were never meant to cross inside fates spinning jenny
And I don’t have many regrets but at least this one is still true
I really wish I’d never stuck it in you

3 Dead Demagogues Walk Into A Bar…

Machiavelli drew plans for his army
“Call up the conscripts, we’re heading for war”
Charge into battle for bloodlust and victory
Never a question of what we fight for

I looked for answers, I found only questions
I looked at solutions then wiped clean the slate
I looked for riches, and found myself poorer
I looked for love, and I found only hate
I tried to be regal, a pawn playing chess
I went out dancing with Lady MacBeth
I looked for home and I found myself homeless
I looked for life and I found only death

Old Thomas Malthus weighed in on the topic
“We fight for we have far too many sons”
Waxing poetic, sounding philanthropic
When the bodies are buried, what to do with their Guns?

I looked for answers, I found only questions
I looked at solutions then wiped clean the slate
I looked for riches, and found myself poorer
I looked for love, and I found only hate
I tried to be regal, a pawn playing chess
I went out dancing with Lady MacBeth
I looked for home and I found myself homeless
I looked for life and I found only death

Then Sir Thomas Carlyle asked for a hero
Someone with honor and some noblesse
Medical science has made Death a zero
The only thing left is the IRS

I looked for answers, I found only questions
I looked at solutions then wiped clean the slate
I looked for riches, and found myself poorer
I looked for love, and I found only hate
I tried to be regal, a pawn playing chess
I went out dancing with Lady MacBeth
I looked for home and I found myself homeless
I looked for life and I found only death

I’ll Eat Bacon on Your Grave

We’ve been at war for 8 long years
Fighting terror, fighting those who bring fear
We bagged al Zarqawi, Saddam went into the long dark night
We’ve just one injustice left for us to make right

Somewhere in Afghanistan, on the border of Pakistan
There’s an animal, I will not call him a man
His names Osama, there’s a price on his head
I know I’m looking forward to when he’s dead

You’re a sick bastard, a dirty worthless knave
Surrounded by the desert rats that you enslaved
And I know you’re out there hiding in some cave
Someday I’ll eat bacon on your grave

8 years ago the towers came tumbling down
3000 ghosts you killed, for your desert god
You say I must submit, be your gods slave
Screw you, I’ll eat bacon on your grave

You’re a sick bastard, a dirty worthless knave
Surrounded by the desert rats that you enslaved
And I know you’re out there hiding in some cave
Someday I’ll eat bacon on your grave

And Mr. President, I didn’t vote for you
But here’s one thing that America wants from you
Send in the Marines, let them win this fight
Let’s see Osama’s head on a bacon coated spike

You’re a sick bastard, a dirty worthless knave
Surrounded by the desert rats that you enslaved
And I know you’re out there hiding in some cave
Someday I’ll eat bacon on your grave

Where the Road Turns to Fire

I found a yellow headed stranger on the Yellow Head run
I picked him up and we drove off into the sun
“Go West Young Man” was what the prophets said
But we’re alive and all of them are dead
We took the road from Valhalla to Edmonton and on
Through cattle country, Waterton and beyond
Beneath the blue Alberta skies, brighter than sapphire
Drove the Sun Road, where the road turns to fire

We kept on going with the sun in our eyes
We could have stopped but we never found a reason why
We saw the world change, and the people on the way
Everything a man could want, we passed by every day
We reached his stop and he thanked me for the ride
He shook my hand and he looked me deep in the eyes
Before he walked away, he told me I should look higher
And lay my heart to rest where the road turns to fire

And he sang
Take me home where my ancestors lie
Across the Rainbow in the Sky
When the trees burn red and gold in the shire
I’ll ride alone where the road turns to fire

I was heading north on the 15 freeway
The sky was turning a darker shade of gray
I said it looks like rain to no one in particular
All I need is the road, piece of mind, and this old guitar
The wind blew cold but I don’t fear the cold
Like the changing leaves I know my heart is old
But the road still beckons, fanning my desire
Bury my heart where the road turns to fire

Just like a lone wolf I rode across the border
Rode till I couldn’t get much norther
Staring at the sun, reflecting asphalt desire
When the road turns to fire
Bury my heart where the road turns to fire

Quinnipiac

The sun hits the window early Sunday morn
I’m still awake from the evening before
Play my guitar but the chords don’t come right
Feels like a melody is just out of sight

And the hot cup of tea is calling my name
Some how I feel it won’t ever be the same
My body aches and my brain is racked
The girl that I loved is gone and she ain’t coming back

Stroll out the front door and walk down the street
Wonder if this humid air will ever taste sweet
Down past Delaneys, I won't stop for a beer
Knowing that each glass is filled with tears

And I keep on going down across New Haven
Stop in the park speak to the ravens
And then down Chapel to the cold Quinnipiac
The girl that I loved is gone and she ain’t coming back

And an old man is fishing and he calls me over
Tells me of his youth as a rover
I think I might wander again, but not today
That would feel too much like running away

The blood in the streets has dried long ago
The dead come to die but they aren’t ready to let go
I stand on the bridge over the Quinnipiac
The girl that I loved is gone and she ain’t coming back

The Bacon Song

Hitler was a Vegetarian- and now he's dead
Osama Bin Ladin, he doesn't eat bacon, and there's a price on his head
But me and my people, we eat bacon- most of us daily
And we're a shining example of goodness and freedom, from sea to shining sea

Cause Bacon adds life, Bacon adds Joy
It's the most wonderful thing in all the world
And It Keeps Us Strong!

There was vegan family
They had a new born child
They fed it on a diet of apple juice and soy milk
The poor baby died

Bacon adds life, Bacon adds joy
It's the most wonderful thing in all the world
And It Keeps Us Strong!
